In spite of Tioman's relatively modest size and geographical isolation, it does have a few not-to-be missed events on its calendar.
Tioman Festival 2020After all the successful Tioman Surfing Events, Tioman Boardriders Event Management will launch its 10th edition for Jan/Feb 2020 as Tioman Festival 2020.
Tioman Boardriders Event Management is a local Tioman company with JKKK Kg Juara, solely responsible for hosting Tioman Festival, a yearly event that is fully supported by the Ministry of Tourism of the State of Pahang, The Tioman Development Authority and Tioman Boardriders Club.
The Tioman Festival and the Surfing Competition in particular, attracts and encourages local surfers from within Malaysia, as well as other parts of South East Asia. Tioman Festival is also becoming a popular draw for international travellers, environment lovers and music fans.
Originally a surfing event, with each successive editionTioman Festival is looking set to become more and more diverse in the types of activities being promoted. Examples of other activities in the spotlight are Rock-climbing, Speed-climbing, Stand Up Paddle and Tug of War and Beach Clean-up, to name a few.
Tioman Royal RaceBilled as The Toughest Adventure Race in South East Asia, The Sultan Ahmad Shah (SAS) International Tioman Eco-Challenge, also known as the "Tioman Royal Race", is by now quite renown. Inaugurated in 2008, it will be organized for the 10th time in 2020. For more details, please see the Tioman Eco Challenge website.
Tioman Island Clean-up Day 2020Tioman Island Clean-up Day usually involves over 100 volunteers, including Berjaya staff, kids from Tioman's school, media participants and even tv celebrities, all of whom put in plenty of sweaty back-breaking time on the ground in a mass clean-up effort of Tioman's beaches.
But it's not just man-made rubbish that is collected during Tioman Island Clean-up Day. To reduce the relentless crown-of-thorns starfish pressure on our coral gardens, as many of this voracious starfish predator as possible are caught by the participating divers and then disposed of also.
It is hoped that Tioman Island Clean-up Day will serve to strengthen our resolve to maintain our efforts to keep Tioman's ecosystems flourishing, both above and below the waterline, whilst simultaneously fulfilling our educational objectives by spreading the word on the importance of conservation.
Start In Tioman (a.k.a. SIT)Start In Tioman is comprehensive dive certification program (PADI) and leisure dive trips and marine conservation efforts all rolled into one single endeavour. Its objective is to consistently and sustainably promote Tioman Island as Malaysia's top scuba diving destination, a position the island has garnered itself over the years.
But Start In Tioman, a joint effort by Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism, Tourism Malaysia, the Tioman Development Authority, Pahang State Government, Villagers Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd, the Divers Association and various diving centers, also zeroes in on creating awareness towards conserving Tioman's marine ecology. Start In Tioman does this by organizing bleach clean-ups, marine conservation round-tables, as well as artificial reef construction.
