Mersing is a bustling sea-side town, where the past meets the present. Although quite modest in size, Mersing is serviced by a decent range of restaurants, cafes and old-school coffee shops. You'll also find quite a few contemporary-type supermarkets and more traditional shop-houses, providing a whole spectrum of products and services, including everyday groceries, souvenirs, western meals and of course local fare, such as nasi padang, chicken rice and roti prata.
There are also a few hotels, as well as cyber cafes, that offer reasonable internet speeds at friendly rates. Most Malaysian banks also have branches in Mersing, so if you need an ATM machine, worry not, there's a number of them here.
Families with kids should know that there's a public park with playground facilities near the ferry jetty - great for those occasions where you have an hour or so to kill before your ferry departs to Tioman.
